The team acts as a Center of Excellence (CoE) within the business, and assists in the identification, measurement, monitoring, and management of Operational Risks related to the business products and processes for products developed/assisted by Digital labs team. Operational risk is the risk to the current or projected business objectives and resilience arising from inadequate or failed internal processes or systems, human errors or misconduct, or adverse external events.The team's scope will include multiple business verticals across US & International Consumer landscape.In line with Amex's "three lines of defense" approach to risk management, the FLoD Operational Excellence team actively works with Second Line of Defense and Third Line of Defense teams to ensure adequate implementation of risk management framework requirements.Role RequirementsThe Analyst, Operational Excellence – Amex Digital Labs is a high-impact role that will support the expansion of an automated control testing program.The role will understand critical business processes, conduct data analysis, and will support the development of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for automated, near real-time risk monitoring as part of the Smart Monitoring capability.The role will lead advanced development / coding strategies implementation and support deduction of meaningful insights from generated algorithmic output.To achieve program outcomes, the role will also collaborate extensively with colleagues from various teams to drive key deliverables e.g. GRBC, Loyalty, Technology, Product Management, and Compliance.ResponsibilitiesSet the agenda by creating and implementing best practices and standards for Analyst colleagues supporting KRI development and data exploration.Mentor and train new hires and early tenure team members through communicating role expectations and standards, leading job shadowing, and overseeing quality of deliverables from new team members.Responsible for generating meaningful insights to be presented to key business partners.Lead exploration of complex data environments in both US and International Consumer.  Create recommendations and strategies for using data findings to build efficient KRIs.Partner with colleagues from the Risk Detection and Analytics team, Operational Excellence, capabilities owners, and product/process owners in the Consumer organization to understand testing automation needs.Write KRI code by leveraging appropriate data after understanding detailed workflow of business processes, reviewing output of back-dated-testing, and refining the logic to ensure that KRIs are become more efficient continually.Support business partners in researching and providing guidance on identifying "true" issues versus false positives, and closing alerts generated by KRIs.Identify relevant, observations, high residual-risk areas, and emerging risk themes.Exemplify strength in the American Express Leadership Model: Setting the agenda, bringing others with them, doing things the right way and putting enterprise first.Preferred Qualifications3+ year of experience in data-driven analyticsExperience in financial services and risk management preferred.Postgraduation degree in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Engineering/Management preferred.Knowledge of risk management and key credit risk / operational risk metricsProficient inIdentifying root cause of the problems / potential solution opportunities at handGather information on process flow, data, system, and related losses / eventsUse data analytics to identify root cause (if applicable) and size the opportunities / problems (if applicable) Be able to solve business problems in complex and unstructured environmentTeam player with strong communication skills, and ability to develop relationships with colleagues.Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently and handle multiple workstreams and ad-hoc tasks simultaneously.Experienced in compiling information and developing insightful materials for leadership presentation.Technical Skills/Capabilities:Expertise in SQL and / or PythonKnowledge in Cornerstone is preferred.Knowledge of statistical techniques is preferred.Knowledge of platforms like CLIC and Big DataExperience in COSMOS/Tableau is preferred.We back our colleagues and their loved ones with benefits and programs that support their holistic well-being.
