Job Description F1000Research is seeking an ambitious publishing professional with a background in academic research to supervise and coordinate the activities of a team supporting the article submission and assessment (peer review) process on F1000Research (F1000Research.com) and across our open research platforms (openresearchcentral.org). F1000 Research is an innovative open research publisher of scientific, scholarly, translational, and clinical research across the physical and life sciences, engineering, medicine, humanities and the social sciences. The F1000 Research publishing system combines the ability to publish rapidly with functionality to ensure transparency, robustness, and reproducibility of research. The publishing model combines the benefits of ‘pre-printing’ (providing rapid publication) with quality and transparency (open data and open peer review) and enables publication within days of submission, followed by open invited peer review. Reporting to the UK-based Senior Managing Editor, the Team Leader will supervise a team of editors supporting the prepublication and peer review processes. With responsibility for performance management and training, the Team Leader ensures that speed and quality targets are met across our open research publishing platforms. As such, this post would suit someone with experience in monitoring team progress and team building within a journals publishing environment. Familiarity with process improvement principles would be a distinct advantage as delivery of increased capacity with minimal impact on head count is a standing objective. The Team Leader is accountable for continual development of service standards and process improvement, and efficient administration procedures using online systems. Additional aspects of the role include assessing articles and associated research data for appropriateness and editorial quality and staying up to date with internal and external guidelines on ethical publication practices ensuring adherence to the highest standards of publication ethics. Key accountabilities: Ensure careful prepublication checks following objective and defined checklists and efficient peer-review while maintaining fast turnaround times and high quality Processing submissions for appropriateness and editorial quality Oversight and training of new staff Effective handling of team administration, including maintenance of team workflows, process tracking, resource planning, and KPIs. Performance management, coaching and motivating a team to meet objectives and targets; taking accountability for team performance Assuring optimal workflows are used Creating, maintaining, and controlling process documentation Developing a detailed knowledge of how systems and processes work to collaborate on problem solving, defect management and best practice Collaborating with stakeholders internally and externally, including managing relationships, regular liaison with editorial teams creating reports and responding to feedback Handle issues around publication and research ethics Providing support to authors using our online submission systems, and managing the resolution of any queries with the appropriate individuals within the team Close liaison with the F1000Research Senior Managing Editor to ensure clear communication regarding processes is maintained Deal with queries/complaints relating to the various publishing platforms as necessary, and upscale when require
