About the position:

We are seeking a T-shaped dynamic Lead Site Reliability Engineer to lead and provide end-to-end solution support for our digital platforms and help us achieve higher returns and lower carbon goals.

Key responsibilities:

Drive reliability and systemic improvements across the subsurface tool set to support a more secure, reliable, scalable and performant environment for Chevron.

Key Responsibilities (day-to-day tasks, learning and development opportunities)
• Learn Chevron's SRE framework, facilitate SRE technical assessments, identify gaps, and provide recommendations to product teams on SRE maturity journey plans.
• Lead SRE implementation efforts in reducing technical debt, align strategic and tactical delivery to accelerate SRE adoption in digital platforms.
• Advise on implementation roadmap, training, governance, and metrics. Optimize, automate, and eliminate toil/operations support activities.
• Effectively and efficiently lead product line agile teams in troubleshooting and resolving system problems, performing postmortem analysis, addressing current application requirements and performance issues.
• Align, collaborate, and build relationships with peers, company leadership, subject matter experts and users to improve knowledge of IT resiliency with end-to-end DevOps through Site Reliability Engineering best practices
• Align with Chevron Digital Architecture System standards and work with Solution/System Architects to support Product solution/application life cycle management (from analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance) to ensure product reliability, scalability and sustainability.
• Leverage extensive SRE knowledge and experience with SLO, SLI, and SLA to help Product Owners in setting up observability via monitoring and reliability via performance management for solution error budgeting.
• Be the liaison between Business/Digital Platform and IT Operations Center SRE for Tier 1 solutions.

Required Qualifications:

Desired Qualifications/Certifications
• Experience working in Azure Cloud High Performance Computing environments.
• Cloud Fundamentals: Knowledge on cloud concepts; core Azure services; Azure Virtual Machine Scale Sets, and Azure management and governance features and tools.
• Software Engineering: Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and software engineering best practices, including code management (Git/GitHub), automated testing, and CI/CD pipeline. Preferred programming languages: C#.net, Python, Java, etc…
• Database: Microsoft SQL Server. Desire to develop new ideas, while following best practices for design and coding.
• Automation and programmability: Proficient in Python, Ansible, YAML and asynchronous programming.
• Observability and Monitoring.
• Structured technical problem solving and debugging.
• Critical thinking, self-motivated with excellent communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Able to conceive and develop a presentation to a peer group that is logical, well-written, and concise.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education/Degrees
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technologies, or Management Information Systems.
• 5 years' experience in Site Reliability Engineering principles such as SLO, SLI, SLA, error budgets, eliminating toil via automation, observability and monitoring, emergency response (triage, postmortem, retrospective) with hands on automation, Observability and Monitoring experience
• Structured technical problem solving and debugging.
• Critical thinking, self-motivated with excellent communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Able to conceive and develop a presentation to a peer group that is logical, well-written, and concise.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
