Department Overview
The Wells Fargo Investment Portfolio (IP) comprises publically traded investments for the Credit Investment Portfolio (CIP), publically traded investments for the Macro Investment Portfolio (MIP), and the banks Reinsurance business. Under leadership of the Chief Investment Officer (CIO), IP manages the banks AFS and HTM investments to achieve liquidity, interest rate risk management, earnings, and other bank objectives.

Wells Fargo Credit Investment Portfolio (CIP) is responsible for the evaluation of credit-driven investment opportunities across a broad spectrum of asset classes, managing a portfolio of corporate, municipal, and asset-backed securities and loans with a view toward long-term holds and a focus on maximizing risk-adjusted returns. CIP also serves as a strategic lever for managing bank constraints and objectives. Portfolio coverage is organized by both asset class and industry sector.
The Corporate Credit team manages a portfolio that primarily invests in investment grade and high yield bonds and loans. The Municipals team manages a portfolio that primarily invests in general government and revenue-backed municipal bonds. The Structured Products Team manages a portfolio that primarily invests in collateralized loan obligations (CLO), commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), and consumer asset-backed securities (ABS - student loans, credit cards, etc.).
IP is part of Enterprise Finance.

About the Role
The position will be responsible for managing a new team of five analysts that will support the CIP Municipal, Corporate Credit, and Structured Products teams in managing their investment portfolios. The CIP WFI&P team will partner with the US CIP team to perform research and support functions to provide data and analysis needed to evaluate existing or prospective credit-sensitive asset investments.


Core responsibilities of the team include financial statement spreading for potential Corporate Credit and Municipal investments, qualitative and quantitative credit monitoring documentation, investment documentation management and organization, credit data aggregation and reporting, management of certain regulatory, internal audit, and WFC Credit Risk requirements and processes, and other credit portfolio administration tasks.
The CIP WFI&P team will also assist US CIP team with ad hoc requests, projects, and implementing new processes and technologies, as needed.
The CIP WFI&P team manager will be responsible for managing a team of five analysts, their work product, and the teams delivery of its core responsibilities. This role will dictate the allocation of responsibilities across the team, and provide formal and informal performance reviews and continuous feedback needed for success.
The manager position is also responsible for owning quality controls on deliverables, tracking and reporting on key performance indicators, prioritization of deliverables, escalations to the US team, maintaining connectivity with US CIP team, and representing the CIP WFI&P team in CIP leadership meetings.
Credit Assessment of Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Loan borrowers.
Responsible for evaluating the financial performance of borrower based on a variety of factors and determining an appropriate risk rating, both qualitative and quantitative.
Analyzing historical cash flows and relevant market data.

Market Skills and Certifications


MBA Finance, ACA Inter, ACMA Inter, CFA, CA, CMA or higher

Experience in an investment banking, strategy, or related role covering the financial services industry

Review loan documents and summarize salient facts of the loan and ongoing covenants (both financial and non-financial) to be maintained by the borrower.
8-10 years of experience in finance, accounting, investment management, or similar roles

2-3 years of people management experience

3-5 years of Investment Banking experience

Demonstrated leadership skills and expertise

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills

Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

Experience managing quality control for large bodies of work
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Experience with financial statement spreading, credit underwriting and monitoring, and/or investment management

Experience analyzing financial statements with GAAP accounting and/or municipal fund accounting

Desired Qualifications

Experience building and/or leading a new team

Experience supporting a US or European organization

Experience with publicly traded debt securities and/or syndicated loan markets and knowledge of market dynamics

Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners

Excellent communication skills; ability to clearly communicate with business partners, peers and senior management
